  • Welcome to the Rhino Linux forums!
    ajstrongdevA ajstrongdev

We're glad you could join us :) These forums will serve as another way that we are able to engage with you, our community, and for members of our community to engage with each other!

In addition to our forums, we have set up official Rhino Linux email addresses. You can also contact us at:

    • contact@rhinolinux.org - General enquiries, help & support, PR.
    • desktop@rhinolinux.org - Desktop development and bug reporting.
    • systems@rhinolinux.org - Rhino Linux systems development and bug reporting.
    • pacstall@rhinolinux.org - Pacstall development (in regards to Rhino Linux) and bug reporting.

We will continue to be active in our community Discord, of course, with development discussion occurring both on our Discord and now our forums. We have cross-posted critical information like certain announcements, tracker issues deemed a priority by us and active hotfixes.

    Many thanks, and happy rolling,

    The Rhino Linux Team

    Announcements

  • hotfix(nix-bin): Repairs nix-bin segfaults in 2025.3 images
    ajstrongdevA ajstrongdev

Users have reported issues with installing and using Nix from Rhino Setup. This is due to Nix utilities segfaulting, but is only present in the latest Ubuntu build. We are providing a minimal hotfix to switch to the Debian build, if it is needed on the system. The hotfix will automatically check this.

    To apply this hotfix, run:

    rhino-hotfix nix-bin

    • You can also run rhino-hotfix and select it from the list of available hotfixes.

We will leave this hotfix issue active until the bug has been resolved in upstream Ubuntu repositories.

We recommend users get into the habit of running the command rhino-hotfix to query for available hotfixes distributed by the Rhino Linux team every so often. You can also join our Discord Community to get notified about active hotfixes.

@oklopfer Oh absolutely and I love how mutually beneficial our relationship is with Pacstall. Both Rhino Linux and Pacstall have shaped each other massively over time.

    General Discussion

  • Rhino Linux 2025.3 out now, sponsorship with UBports Foundation & A Call for Contributors
    ajstrongdevA ajstrongdev

It's been a few months since our last release, and all of our hard work over these past couple of months has been brought together into a fantastic snapshot release!

To upgrade to 2025.3, please run rpk update -y

    Highlights:

    • 2025.3 images ship with RPK2, our rewrite of Rhino PKG in Nushell, by default!
    • Our UBXI KDE Desktop package was released this cycle.
    • celeste-bin has been replaced with rclone-browser on base installs.

As well as various bug fixes.

    Rhino Linux & UBports sponsorship

We are extremely excited to announce that Rhino Linux has been officially sponsored by The UBports Foundation, the maintainers of Ubuntu Touch and creators of Lomiri, the convergence desktop environment. As part of this collaboration, Rhino Linux will be contributing patches upstream to Lomiri, helping to sustain and support its ongoing development. Looking ahead, Rhino Linux 2025.4 will see Lomiri becoming the official Desktop Environment for Rhino Linux on all PINE64 devices, replacing Unicorn Mobile.

    A Call for Contributors!

Rhino Linux is still rolling along, (in fact this is one of our best years yet!), but at the pace we are moving, we continue to need more contributors willing to join the herd to keep us sustained. We started this distribution while still in school, but most of us have graduated now and are moving on to full-time jobs. With our time stretched more thin, we rely on our community to help keep Rhino Linux rolling.

  • prop(rhino-pkg): [Rhino GUI App Store]
    ajstrongdevA ajstrongdev

    https://github.com/rhino-linux/tracker/issues/39

aadashti created this issue in rhino-linux/tracker

closed prop(rhino-pkg): [Rhino GUI App Store] #39

**What feature would you like to see included in Rhino Linux?** The theory behind this feature is to give the package manager a GUI interface where users can have access to the package manager with the application. With this project, Rhino will also have a GUI app store, users can have access to their own app store which can assist them. Alongside these, the app store will have some abilities, like package manager mirror management, auto updates, and so on. **alternatives you've considered** Other passes I've considered are: 1) TUI App Store 2) To give the package manager more flags **Additional context** 1) With this app, comes the abilities to ```install```, ```search```, ```update```, and so on. 2) In this app's settings, users can manage each package providers' mirrors. 3) Automatic check for update future will be included.
